What is the minimum age to be able to obtain a Learner’s License/Permit?
A. You have to be at least 16 years of age to write the Knowledge Test for your Learners License/Permit. However, if you are enrolled in a High School Driver Ed Program, then you are eligible to take the test at 15 ½.
How do I book an appointment for the Knowledge Test for my Learners License and what is the cost?
The Knowledge Test is $ 10.00 and will be written at a Manitoba Public Insurance Service Center. Please visit a licensed Insurance Broker or a Manitoba Public Insurance Service Center to book an appointment.
I have a learners license from another Province, do I have to do the written test again in Manitoba?
Manitoba does not recognize Learners licenses from other provinces.
When can I take my road test for my driving license?
You must hold a Learners Permit/License for a minimum of 9 months.
How do I book an appointment for my road test and what is the cost?
The road test is $ 30.00 and will be taken at a Manitoba Public Insurance Service Center. You can book the road test by visiting Manitoba Public Insurance website mpi.mb.ca or by visiting any licensed insurance broker or Manitoba Public Insurance Service Center. You may book the road test 60 days prior to your test date (9 months from effective date of your Learners License).
How many lessons do you recommend for someone to learn to drive?
Every individual is different and will be assessed by our driving instructor. In the Manitoba Driver Ed High School Program, 8 hours is recommended prior to taking your Road Test.
I am 15 ½, can I take private lessons?
No. You must enroll in the High School Driver Ed Program thru Manitoba Public Insurance to get driving lessons.
I have taken Driver Education already. Can I take some private lessons before I go for my driving test?
Yes. We recommend a refresher lesson for everyone before their driving/road test. Our instructors will go over all driving skills and help prepare you for the test.
